The model 400 is the small/medium size of Souverän.
Classic shape, feminine size, it's a pen suitable for ladies who love fascinating colors.
The tortoise-white Souverän pen was produced in 2004, along the lines of the pen model 400 of the 1950's with a tortoise-brown/transparent body, whose striped, transparent sleeve shines delicately in gold.
Its barrel is made in cellulose acetate.
The production of the sleeve is an elaborate task, as the cotton material - its formula was developed specially for Pelikan - must go through many manufacturing steps. It is bent, smoothed and its contours are diamond-cut; next, the rings are integrated into the material. This is done with the highest precision in order to obtain a virtually seamless transition between the materials.
The cap and the ends of the body are held in white. Light colors, gold and translucent material give this model its characteristically bright and friendly splendor.
Also the Souverän 400 features the differentiated piston filling mechanism. Introduced by Pelikan in 1929, it causes the spindle inside the fountain pen to turn quicker than the end piece of the barrel, with the help of two different threads.
The 14 Kt gold nib, bicolor, refined with rhodium decor, is tested by hand.
Rings and clip are 24 kt gold plated; the clip is slightly springy and shows its famous, stylized pelican's beak shape.
La white Souverän 400 is available also in ballpen version, still divided in white-and-striped turtle:
All Souverän pens come in a rectangular elegant box, with a complimentary pencase.
